About the Health Information Management Pre-Professional Program

Health information managers are responsible for the maintenance and security of all patient records. They must stay up to date with evolving information technology and current, 或提出, laws about health information systems. Health information managers must ensure that databases are complete, 准确的, and accessible only to authorized personnel.

The Health Information Management pre-professional program is designed to prepare students for further study in the field. The University of Nebraska at Kearney is currently affiliated with the following schools of Health Information Management:

  • University of Kansas Medical Center (Kansas City, Kan.)
  • Dakota State University (Madison, S.D.)

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION GUIDE

Responsibilities in health information management:

  • Reviews patient records for timeliness, completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of health data
  • Organizes and maintains data for clinical databases and registries
  • Electronically records data for collection, storage, analysis, retrieval and reporting
  • Tracks patient outcomes for quality assessment
  • Uses classification software to assign clinical codes for reimbursement and data analysis
  • Protects patients’ health information for confidentiality, authorized access for treatment and data security
